Terrorism has been a thorn in the flesh for most countries around the world. Thousands of people have lost their lives and those of their loved ones just because some terror groups like Al-Shabaab want to pass across a political, ideological or religious message. People no longer live with courage since they fear to face the wrath of terrorist groups. It might appear like terrorism is a new phenomenon in our world since it has only been rampant as from 2000. However, it has existed for more than 200 years now. During this time frame, governments have tried their level best to make sure that this inhuman act is dealt with.
Many people may not understand why terrorists continue installing fear among citizens of different nations. What they do not know is that terrorism can arise because of religious extremism as evident with the rise of Islamist terrorism ever since the attack on the World Trade Center in New York. Terrorism may not necessarily occur by people who are into the Islamic faith. This is because there have also been acts of terrorism in the name of Christianity. One such scenario is the 2011 terror attack in Norway which was motivated by religious extremism.
Fortunately, countries are now working together to make sure that terrorism is no more. Nations such as the United States of America (USA) are helping countries combat terrorism by offering support in terms of machinery and intelligence. The help offered by these countries has proved beneficial with some countries now able to deal with the problem.
Terrorism will continue posing a threat to many people around the world unless the necessary measures are put in place. One such step is educating citizens on how to shun away from joining terrorist groups. Until this is done, we will continue living in fear not knowing when a terror group may strike.
